The Beginning of The End -
Chapter 37
Ryker gently pulls me towards him when we reach his study, placing me onto his knee
as he sits behind the large desk. It was a typical office, a desk, chair and shelves lined with books. Yet, there wasn't a computer or phone in site, he had already disposed of those. After all, a Dragon King had no use for modern technology.
But me? I miss the easy life, and i miss siting for hours in front of the tv watching random episodes of shows i can't remember the name of.
I never had to worry about demons back then, and i never had to live each second fearing for my life.
I also had a family, people who loved me for who i was.
Maddox and Ryker don't love me, and i don't love them. Yet, fate has brought us together and now we must live as one, not matter how much i despise the thought of being theirs.
Surprisingly though, i did not hate it as much as i did a few days ago.
It wasnt as bad as i beleived it would be, until Darax entered the picture, now i wasn't so sure i was going to survive at all.
"What's going on?" i ask them both, leaning back into Ryker in a desperate search for comfort. "Who is Darax and where are we going?"
I had a thousand and one questions, all of them fighting to get out of me.
Maddox walks around the desk and leans back on the edge, close enough to reach out and grab me. Yet he doesn't touch me at all.
"Darax is the King of the realm we are from, he is a shape shifter." Maddox runs a hand down his face. "He came here to kill you, but because you are marked by us he cannot touch you without starting an uprising. Mates are sacred and protected."
Too many questions.
"Why does he want to kill me?" I ask, pulling Ryker's arm around my stomach and holding it there. "I have never even met him before."
I have never needed someone to comfort me, not until now. My father never really had
a soft bone in his body, but he did protect me the best that he could, and that was enough.
Now however. mv hody and mind wanted the comfort of mv. mates. even though i still was not entirely sure what a mate was.
"He wants to eradicate the entire fae race, he wanted no one left behind." Ryker growls slightly as he speaks, his body stiff beneath mine. "He belives your kind too powerful and no one can be more powerful than Darax, not in his eyes."
Sad tears form in my eyes, "I'm not so sure i want to go with you to this other realm."
I clearly won't be welcome in this new place, yet they want me to go with them regardless.
Why would i want to be with them when my life continued to be in danger? Maddox leans forward, brushing my hair out of my face. "Dear little one, you don't have a choice."
"Why not? It feels like i am walking into my own death!" i sob, i wasn't normally someone who cries, but the thought if having to be around Darax truly terrified me.

He would never break his own law, but that did not mean he couldn't get others to break it for him.
If he was truly a King, and a shape shifter, i was certain he could replace a way around the laws to get what he wants, And i did not know if Maddox or Ryker would be around enough to keep him at bay. Darax could any one, or anything in this new world, and i would not be able to tell the difference.
I would be left vulnerable and open for attack, more so than i was already.
The creatures under Maddox's command, both the hounds and the immortal bloodsuckers hated me. They wanted me nowhere near their masters, and i was sure they would try to get rid of me.
The list of people i had trying to kill me had more than doubled over the past week, and i had no one expect for my mates.
Miya had abandoned me. Even after all we had been through.
"The meeting with Darax was a warning Elora, if you don't come with us, it is a sign you do not accept us, that leaves you open for attack." Ryker explains, puffs of smoke coming out of his nose. "He would scout out this entire world to make sure you are dead."
i sigh deeply, my shoulders dropping. "So i go with you, then what? i live my immortal life in fear of him coming for me?"
Maddox shakes his head, his eyes flashing as the beast rushes to the surface, "You need not worry little mate, he will not be king for much longer."
I glance between them, confused. Did that mean...
"what do you mean? Are you are going to kill him?" i ask, shocked.
If Darax was as powerful as they say, they could not possibly hope to win. Not unless they had an army behind them.
Ryker plants several small kisses on my neck and shoulder, "He will not be King much longer, the plan is already in motion."
i look back at him, my eyes wide, "Oh god, you are going to kill him."
Maddox smirks, bellowing a laugh. "Yes, little mate. We are going to kill them, and all those who follow him."
They are crazy!
They are going to kill the shapeshifter?! Surely they cannot win, not alone.
"Then take this magic binder off me, i can help."
Maddox's smile widens, "i was hoping you would say that."
