I wake up slowly, bouncing slightly as the world tilts to the side, my body rocking. I peel my eyes open, the wooden ceiling above me blueing as I groan, unable to understand where I am.

"Elora?" Comes a soft feminine voice. "Are you awake? Please tell me you are awake cause I'm sick of sitting here alone."

I turn my head, Miya sat on a bench across from me, bouncing as the wooden box moved, a blanket wrapped around her shoulders.

"Where are we?" I ask, rubbing my eyes.

Another bump and I am nearly send flying, Miya leans forward to steady me, her eyes sad.

"The guard said you passed out." She says, "I was worried about you."

Passed out?

"Where are we?" I ask again, trying to get up.

Metal clinks, I look down at my ankle and notice the metal chain wrapped around it, it's attached to the floor.

"On our way to the new realm I guess." She says with a frown, "they chained us so we couldn't run."

They chained us. Maddox and Ryker chained me in a wooden box so I wouldn't run. I thought we were past all of that.

I thought they trusted me more than this.

"How long have we been moving?" I ask.

I keep the pain out of my voice, I don't want her to know how much this betrayal hurts.

I know Maddox and I argued but I never thought they would do this.

Though, they're probably right.

I would have taken Miya and tried to escape, especially after the conversation I had with Maddox.

"I don't know." She whispers, looking at the small door. "They brought me water, and some bread a little white ago, that was nice."

I groan, "Miya focus." I say harshly, "I don't care what they've fed you, did you see a difference in the landscape when they opened the door." I sit up, "did you feel any difference when we passed through the portal?"

She looks at me like I'm crazy, maybe I am.

Maybe I've lost my goddamn mind.

"No." She says quietly, "there has been no difference, not apart from the road getting bumpier."

Just as she says it we are launched an inch into the air, the road must be rocky. It means we aren't travelling the main roads, or maybe we are.

Maybe we have already passed through the portal and I just don't know it.

I bang on the wooden door, the wooden box stops jerkily.

I'm thrown forward.

Miya catches me.

The door opens and Suer peeks his head inside, "You are finally awake, good."

I stare at him, feeling oddly betrayed.

But he doesn't answer to me, he answers to Maddox.

I'm nothing but a job to him.

"Where are we?" I ask, trying to stay calm.

"We are about an hour away from the castle." He says, leaning against the frame of the wooden box.

It looks like it might snap from the sheer weight of him.

"What castle?" I ask, my heart hammering against my ribs.

"Ryker's castle." He says, "we entered his land a while back, we will stop here first and then decide what to do from there."

My blood runs cold, my world is long gone.

"I don't understand." I whisper, "why am I chained up."

Sure stares at me, then stares at the chain, "I thought that would be obvious." He says with a shrug. "It's so that you can't run off."

He shuts the door with more force than it could handle, the wood groaned, splintered and almost broke entirely.

My words fall against the floor and shatter like glass.

He was so cruel.

I don't remember a time where he ever spoke to me like that. Maybe he heard my

conversation with Maddox. Maybe he hates me now.

I wouldn't be surprised. I betrayed them in a way.

I promised revenge and went back on my word.

But I couldn't do it.

I couldn't kill the hounds, even if they did try to kill Ryker.

Yet Ryker had done it for me when I was attacked. He killed everyone who tried to hurt

me. He tore them apart, and I couldn't even do it once for him.

He nearly died, and I acted like it didn't matter.

I stupidly thought my innocence was more important than his life, even though I have killed before.

I've never done that before, that's the first time I have ever acted like a coward, and it might have destroyed everything.

What if they don't want me anymore, what if I have destroyed any chance at happiness I had?

"I didn't realise you cared so much." Miya is watching me, the blanket wrapped tightly around her shoulders. "I didn't realise you had gotten so close to them." She says, her eyes full of sadness.

"It isn't what you think..."

"But it is, you are falling for them." She wipes away tears with anger. "They tried to kill me and you are falling in love with them."

I slump back against the wooden wall, "maybe I am." I whisper, my eyes falling shut, “I don't even know when my mind began to change." I laugh bitterly, "I don't even know when I stopped wanting to destroy them."

"Why Elora?" Miya cries, "Why would you do this?"

I stare at her, she's so good, so human.

She doesn't understand the bond of fared mates.

How could I ever explain it?

"I haven't done it purely to piss you off or upset you." I say with a sharp edge to my voice, "it's not like I chose to be theirs because I wanted to, I was doing it to save your

life!"

She scoffs, crossing her arms. "don't pass the blame to me cause you got fucked by someone who deserves to be torn apart."

"It's not like that!" I argue, "the bond is more than sex and attraction." I pull at my hair in frustration. “It's like my body can't breathe without them... it's like I am not even alive without being close to them."

"I don't understand." She says, her voice softening again, "I thought you hated them."

"I did to begin with." I whisper, fighting back tears. "I don't know when it changed, but it has."

"I can't give you my blessing." She takes my hand, "I can't say I accept it either... but Elora, I accept you, and I know you. You're not bad. You're not them." She squeezes my hand, "we'll figure it out, together."

"Do you mean that?" She nods, I break down crying. " you are too good for me."

"I know." She laughs.

I smile.

Maybe all isn't lost after all.
