I woke in Maddox's arms, comfortable and warm, it was a safe place, a place where I knew I'd be cared for, no matter what I do. We've had ups and downs, we have had fights and pretended to hate each other.

But the love has always been there, just below the surface, and so has the attraction and desire. I just didn't want to admit it at first.

I guess I just wanted to pretend that I wasn't mated to Maddox and Ryker, I wanted things to be as they were back on that abandoned farm.

But they will never be like that again.

I climb out of the bed, careful not to wake Maddox up as I slip out from under the duvet.

I'm not the stealthiest person, but he's a deep sleeper, so I'm fine as I walk towards the bathroom.

One thing I will miss is plumbing, they have toilets here, but they are nothing like back home, they're just a wooden box you do your business in and then someone else comes to clear it away.

You'd think it'd stink, but it doesn't, and I'm sure it's some kind of magic that prevents the smell.

They dispose of it by magic too, which of course it better for their world because

without plumbing it could get rather dirty roaming the streets.

They're used to it though; it's how they've lived for centuries.

Maddox says they don't want earths technology. They aren't interested in it.

They are fine as they are.

I go to the toilet and then wash my hands in a bowl that's located on a small table, I'd like a bath, but I'd have to contact the servants for that, and I hate to cause an inconvenience for anyone.

I can wait. Maybe I could ask Maddox when he wakes up.

I walk back into the bedroom and yawn, it's tempting to just climb back into bed and pretend I never left, but I haven't seen Miya since yesterday and I'd like to know she's ok.

I have to ask her what she does.

I walk to the door that connects our bedrooms and slowly open it, but the small box room is empty, and the bed hasn't been slept in.

Strange, was she working through the night?

I thought that she only had light duties due to being my friend, maybe I was wrong.

It's best to ask Maddox.

I jump onto the bed and give him a small shake, a groan leaving his clenched jaw as he

turns over.

"Come on Maddox." I say, giving him another shake. "Wake up."

He groans again, opening one eye to look at me. "What's wrong?"

He can tell I'm nervous.

It's the bond, it can project our emotions to each other.

I'd almost forgotten about that.

"Miya isn't in her room." I say, trying to hold back the pain from my voice.

I fail.

Maddox sits up, rubbing his eyes. "Suer should be outside the door, have him send someone to look for her."

I nod, pulling my dress from yesterday over my head and walking towards the door, my heart is racing, and I don't even know why.

It feels like my entire world is falling apart.

Something is wrong. I can feel it.

My chest is going to explode from anxiety.

I open the door, and just as Maddox has said, Suer is on the other side, talking to two

other guards.

"Suer." I whisper, taking his attention away from the others.

He smiles, but it falters when he looks at me, "what's wrong my queen?"

"Miya is missing." I say, my voice cracking. "We have to replace her."

What if she's been hurt?

What if she has been attacked and left for dead?

I'm terrified.

"Jeyn." Suer says, turning to one of the guards. "Go see what you can replace out, ask the over human servants."

Jeyn was a bulky man, thick arms and legs, muscular and tall. He looked like all he did was lift weights for a living.

Or maybe he's just really good at killing.

He was nice to look at though, a sharp face, bright blue eyes and a head of blonde hair. He had a beard of course, most of the hellhounds do. But it was neatly trimmed and short.

Jeyn stares at me for several seconds before he nods, "of course, I'll be back shortly." He disappears down the corridor.

"Sure I'm worried." I say, ignoring that the other guards where watching and listening. "She's never been away this long, I think something has gone wrong."

Sure places a hand on my shoulder, "Let's stay calm, we don't know anything yet."

I try to listen but my chest tightens once more, it's becoming increasingly difficult to breathe and I don't know how to cope.

I'll never forgive myself if something has happened to her whilst I've been distracted with Maddox.

I'm the worst friend in all of history.

I have to replace her.

"I'm going to look for her." I say, shoving Suer's hand away.

"We will come with you, my queen." Says another guard. "We will help you replace your friend."

The other guard has brown hair and yellow eyes, yellow like the sun back in my realm. They were warm, comforting almost.

He was tall and large, much like the others. And he wore black jeans and a black tunic. Yeah, tunic, like from the dark ages.

"What's your name?" I ask.

"Henri." He replies, a small smile on his lips.

I smile back. "Thank you for offering your help, Henri."

The more help the better, and if she's truly missing I think I'll need all the help I can

get.
