The Divine Wolf... or?
Chapter 146: Control.

Bloodlust was starting to engulf Ark's mind, and his rationality was beginning to slip. As he took a whiff of the heavy smell of blood once more, Ark suddenly smirked. His expression turned slightly sinister as his vision started to blur a little. His mind that was once filled with the happy expressions of Ephine and Atar was suddenly engulfed with thoughts of murder, and pain.

He wasn't thinking of inflicting pain on others, but he was thinking about the pain that he had felt.

As Ark had been tortured, there was nothing on his mind other than pain. His mind had been consumed by thoughts of revenge and pain, nothing else. If he had been there for a couple more days, he would've truly either gone insane, or just straight up murdered everyone in his sight. Meeting Atar and Ephine had effectively worked like therapy to him.

His disrupted mind had calmed down, and he had started to become normal again. The only problem he had now was with blood, it worked like a trigger for him.

Every time he saw too much blood or smelled the heavy stench for too long, his control started to slip. He had already lost control before, and he was about to do it again! The young noble lady quickly turned around, as she had felt a scary amount of bloodlust, and as she looked around, she noticed Ark staring creepily at the young knight that was covered in blood.

Seeing the weird smirk on his face, as well as his twisted expression, the lady was able to sense that something was wrong with him.

Ark's thoughts were erratic, and he was on the verge of lunging forward, even if it cost him his life, he couldn't hold himself anymore. Ark took half a step forward, and the ground cracked underneath his foot. The young lady's knights reacted quickly and drew their swords once more, standing in front of her to protect her from Ark. Before Ark could lunge, a slender hand took hold of his.

Ephine's slender fingers intertwined with Arks, and she whispered in his ear gently. "Calm down a little."

Ark's entire body shuddered violently, and he started to slowly calm down. The intense bloodlust that he had been emitting was slowly receding into the depths of his body once more.

The twins looked at him with weird eyes, they were sure that he was just about to try and kill them, and the hairs on their bodies had stood almost straight up when they felt his massive bloodlust, but it was suddenly all gone.

Ark was a little ashamed of himself, how many times was he going to lose control of himself like this? What if he one day attacked the only people he cared about? His shame quickly turned into something else, anger. This anger wasn't directed at someone else, but himself. He had managed to get this strong, and he had managed to replace people he truly cared about, yet he couldn't even control himself?

If he truly did attack them someday, then he would probably just want to kill himself.

The twins didn't sheath their swords this time, and they just kept pointing them at Ark. The young lady, was unlike her two guards, quite perceptive. She was shocked as well by Ark's behaviour, but she could clearly see that his hands were shaking slightly, and his twisted expression had turned into something else.

Instead of the twisted expression of someone who was about to commit murder, this was the expression of someone feeling ashamed, not only that, but it was also an expression of disappointment.

Before she could inspect him anymore, Ark quickly bowed deeply. "I'm really sorry for that, it wasn't on purpose, I have a problem with controlling myself sometimes, I'm truly sorry."

"It-it's fine, just don't do it again."

Ark felt truly ashamed for once, he usually didn't care about others, but letting people see him like this was quite embarrassing. As he saw the young knight covered in blood again, he stood up straight again. Before anyone could react, he released a massive amount of blinding golden mana from his body.

The pressure he was exuding was stifling, but he reined it in a little, letting everyone else relax. The golden light quickly made its way towards the young knight, engulfing him entirely from head to toe.

At first, the twins and the young lady were on their guards, but as Ark released the mana, the young knight could be seen again. He was still covered in blood, but all the wounds that had riddled his body were gone. A long wound that had been bleeding profusely from the young knights back was also completely gone, a thin red scar was the only thing that was left of it.

If he had more time, then he would probably be able to get rid of the scar as well, but seeing the looks on the twins' faces, Ark knew that they would probably attack him if he continued.

"I'm sorry for holding you guys up like this, you should probably be on your way."

This time when he said it, Ark was a little more forceful, as he just wanted these people to leave. He didn't want to get involved more than he already had, and he didn't have all the time in the world. Not only that, but he still had to exert himself a lot to not lose control again.

The twins and the young knight were infuriated by the way Ark spoke to their young lady, but Ark didn't care right now, he just wanted them to leave.

The young lady was a little annoyed by the way he spoke, but she needed to leave either way, and it seemed like this guy had gone through something. Otherwise he wouldn't want to risk offending them to just get them to leave a minute or two earlier. Besides, she was thankful for the help, Ark had healed one of her men after all. "Don't worry, I won't stay any longer!"

The young lady left quickly, with her knights quietly following after her. It didn't take long for them to leave Ark's line of sight, and when they did, he simply plopped down on the ground for a while. Anger, frustration and shame was invading his mind, there was no room for any happy thoughts right now, as Ark was thoroughly angry at himself.

He didn't want his life to be like this, and there was no way that he would let it stay like this. He didn't want to depend on others just to keep his sanity.

He clenched his fists in frustration, hard enough for his fists to start trembling. As he did, he abruptly stood up, and moved next to one of the trees in his surroundings. He needed to vent some of his frustrations, and this tree was just his poor victim. If the tree had any idea about what was going to happen to it, it would surely uproot itself and run away.

He relaxed his stance a little, before he threw a punch with all his might at the poor three.

The tree broke apart before his punch could even connect entirely, but the aftereffects were way more devastating than the destruction of a single tree.
