Chapter 13
Chapter 13:.
“Sherry, wait, I need to talk to you!”. Said the woman in a hurry.
Sherry and Celia exchanged a look, “Celia, take Daniel and go out first, I’ll come after you.”
“Okay!” Celia took Daniel’s hand and walked out of the cemetery.
“I have nothing to talk to you about.” Sherry said coolly.
“Sherry, I know you blame me! But I really didn’t have a choice then!”.

“Hum!” Sherry scoffed, “Excuse me, I have to go!”
“Sherry!” The woman said anxiously, “Please give Mom a change, I know I was wrong.”
“It’s too late for that!”. Sherry smiled, “Since the day you left me and Luke, you’ve lost your chances to be our mother. If it weren’t for you, Luke might still be alive.”
“Lu…” The woman began to cry, “I know I made a mistake!”
“You should apologize to Luke! If he can forgive you, then so will I. But I’m never going to hear him say he’s forgiven you! Because some things will be lost forever, once you’ve lost your chance! Like a person’s life, once it’s gone, then it’s gone!”. When Sherry finished speaking, she stood up and walked past the woman, and when she did, she just looked straight ahead, she didn’t want to see her tears.
She left at a brisk pace, but when she turned the corner, she could no longer hold back her own tears. Her mother had abandoned her and Luke when her father died, and decided to marry another man.
What made her think she could ask for forgiveness now?
Sherry ran away, she just wanted to get out of there.
Bang!
She ran into someone’s arms, the smell of tobacco entering her nose, the blow sent her reeling, and she almost fell to the ground, but the other person quickly reached out a hand and grabbed her.
A bundle of dies fell across the floor and the man shouted angrily, “What’s the matter with you?”
“I’m so sorry!” Tears blurred her vision as Sherry apologized to the man, but she suddenly realized the voice sounded all too familiar.
“Are you always this reckless?” The deep voice said again.
Sherry looked up sharply and felt a rush to her head, then took a step back and said, “Mr. Rowland, how come you’re here?”
“And you?”. replied William after staring at her for quite a while.
“Visiting a grave!”. Sherry thought his question was odd, Mr. Rowland must also be here to visit someone. He couldn’t be there just for a walk!
“Yes.” He said, still turning his face to her, and said no more. The two of them stood on the little cemetery path, and when he said nothing, Sherry didn’t know what else to say either.
She glanced at the tall figure in front of her, and began to feel nervous, “Mr. Rowland, I’ll go buy you another bouquet.”
“No need!” William was wearing a black shirt and pants, which set off his good figure and his strong, long legs. An indifferent look filled his arrogant, unruly face, he gave a glance at the Shriner on the floor.
Sherry bent down, “Then let me help you pick them up.”
“Yes.”
At least the flowers were okay, Sherry was a little angry with herself, she had been too hasty, and it was even worse to have bumped into Mr. Rowland. Sherry quickly put the flowers into a bouquet, and it almost gave the impression of being new from the store.
As William watched Sherry pick her flowers, his eyes narrowed slightly, but it was not possible to read his emotions.
When Sherry was finished, he flashed a smile on his face, at least the damage wasn’t too bad.
Suddenly, she had the feeling that someone was watching her, she immediately stopped smiling, and looked up, seeing Williams’ eyes.
William never realized how beautiful her smile was, it was like a spell that made his heart beat faster.
That smile had a hint of calm, a hint of contentment, it gave him the feeling of a blooming flower in an open field. It wasn’t beautiful, but it could brighten up the whole field.
Sherry didn’t have time to put any more thoughts into William’s complicated look, she quickly stood up and handed him the bouquet, “Mr. Rowland, here are your flowers, I’m so sorry!”.
As William took the flowers, their hands touched for a second, and it felt as if they received an electric shock. Sherry quickly withdrew her hand, while William nodded slightly without showing any more emotion.
“Mr. Rowland, I’ll get going!”. Sherry curtsied before walking away:
“Yes.” A simple and quick answer.
Sherry turned quickly, and hurried away.
William kept looking at his shadow, as if he was thinking about something. Then he finally turned and walked into the cemetery.
Unbelievable, he actually ran into Mr. Rowland in the cemetery! It wasn’t even grave sweeping day, did Mr. Rowland have any relatives who had died on the same day as his brother?
Sherry trotted a few feet before stopping, turned doubtfully and watched as William walked to the east side of the yard. It was the same area where her father was buried.
Sherry’s father died in an automobile accident, he was buried on the east side of the cemetery. When Luke died, she wanted him buried next to her father, but that part was already sold.
She never knew that Mr. Rowland’s relative was also buried there.
Sherry took a deep breath. Dad, I’m sorry, I wanted to visit you too. Next month is your birthday, I’ll be back to see you!
