Chapter 12:

In the studio.

“Do you still remember to come back?”. John snapped at the sight of William, “When are you getting married, when are you going to replace a mother for Sammy.”

“You asked me to come back here to talk about this?”. William scowled.

“You unhappy son! Lucille’s been gone for three years now, when are you going to move on?”.

“Don’t mention her!” William’s face immediately darkened.

“Then get married! Next week will be the company’s anniversary celebration and many daughters of industry leaders will be in attendance. Pick one!”.

“Anything else?” William asked impatiently, “If not, I’ll say goodbye.”

William left the study before John said anything else.

In the boy’s room, “Daddy, did Snow White finally get woken up by the Prince?”

“I’ll tell you next time!”.

“No daddy, I want to know now.”

“What do you think?”

“She was woken up by his kiss!”.

“Yes, Sammy is so smart!”.

A week later. Sherry’s resilience was very strong, otherwise she would not have survived these years. She took care of a child on her own and worked while she studied. Eventually, she managed to get her qualifications. Because of this, she was able to familiarize herself with her job in a matter of days.

The only problem was that Lara made things difficult for her – at least she was able to solve them carefully!

Today, both Mr. Rowland and Lara were out of the office:

“Sherry, I hear Mr. Rowland has taken Lara away on a business trip!”. Alice rushed over.

“Oh? Really?” Sherry didn’t like to gossip and continued working on her papers. She wanted to take advantage of the boss’s absence to work quietly and learn as much as she could.

“You know Mr. Rowland has a lot of women? I heard that Lara is one of them. Mr. Rowland only accepts virgins. He’s obsessive about cleanliness!”

“Okay!” She replied indifferently.

Not many men were obsessive about cleanliness. So if he was obsessive about cleanliness, why did he have so many women? Isn’t that contradictory?

She thought that someone who was obsessive about cleanliness shouldn’t have any women. Wouldn’t he be cleaner if he lived alone?

“Now Mr. Rowland only drinks coffee made by you. Sherry, are you one of Mr. Rowland’s wives?” Alice continued to tease.

“Hey!” Sherry raised her head and couldn’t help but laugh, “Alice, you have a wild imagination!”

“You were personally selected by Mr. Rowland – he personally hired you! You’re the only one who had this honor! Do you know how many people in the company are jealous of you?”

“I don’t know!” Sherry laughed, “Let’s get back to work.”

“Sherry, you are so square!”. Alice shook her head, “Yes, it makes sense! How could Mr. Rowland like you? Mr. Rowland is so macho and he should like someone sexy like Lara! You can’t be Mr. Rowland’s wife!”

What does this have to do with us? Sherry sighed inwardly.

“Sherry! Why do you dress so mature when you’re so young, your boyfriend must have nightmares when he sees you dressed like that at night!”

“Ha!” Sherry laughed. She had never considered being in a relationship and had never dreamed of the impossible. At twenty, she had lost the right to love anyone.

Oh! The anniversary of Luke’s death was approaching! She glanced at her calendar and circled the date. It was this weekend. He planned to take Dan to his brother’s grave. That day was the anniversary of Luke’s death and also the day she lost her innocence.

“Mommy, is Uncle really in heaven?” Dan gave a puzzled look at the picture on the headstone and asked Sherry, “Uncle is a good man and he’s in heaven. He’s very happy now and he’ll never be hurt again!”

“Oh!” Dan nodded his head as if he understood.

“It’s okay, don’t be sad anymore, Luke doesn’t want to see you sad!”. Celia said next to him and her eyes glistened with tears.

Suddenly, Dan tugged at Sherry’s clothes, “Mom, that grandma is looking at you!”.

“What?” Sherry turned and in the haze of her tears, she saw a middle-aged woman standing about ten yards away with a bouquet of flowers in her hands. She stood still and stared at Sherry.

Sherry blinked and wiped away her tears before she could see clearly who this person was.

“Sherry!” That woman stepped forward and gave Sherry and the boy a surprised look, “Sherry…”.

Sherry looked at her clearly. She was wearing a Qipao and looked as beautiful and elegant as when she was young. No one could see in her face that she was already forty years old.

He smiled coldly, as if he didn’t see her at all. Sherry grabbed Dan’s hand, “Dan, say goodbye to Uncle. Let’s go home.”
