Chapter 23:

So, to Susan and Sherry’s bewilderment, William and Liam started walking ahead of them towards the street next to the AVL.

“Gosh, is this the William I know?”. Susan gasped.

“Miss Gill, do you know Mr. Rowland?” asked Sherry curiously.

“Yes! I’ve known him for about ten years!”

“Oh?”

“Oh what, he was my junior in school!”

“Junior?” Sherry gasped. Susan and William gave a similar age. Mr. Rowland had to be in his mid-thirties.

“Baffled? I don’t seem to give the impression of being my age, but I’m already thirty-two!”. Susan sighed, “I can’t escape the reality of time!”

“No, Miss Gill, you’re not old at all!”. Sherry shook her head.

“You can drop the Miss and call me Sue!”. Susan gave her a look.

“All right! Sue!”

“Hurry up, you two! Dear Sue, are you trying to back out of treating us?” Liam shouted from the front.

“Let’s walk fast! That clown is rushing us!” Susan referred to Liam.

“So, how long have you known Mr. Brooks?”

“They’re both my schoolmates!”. Susan shook her head in despair, “I didn’t expect their personalities to change so much. After ten years, their personalities really changed!”

Sherry listened intently to what Susan was saying. Can personalities be switched? Wasn’t it said that a leopard can’t change its spots?

Miss Restaurant Boss’s eyes almost popped out when she saw the two handsome men dressed in business suits walk in.

“Hello! Madame, can we have a private dining room?”. said Liam as he entered the premises.

“I’m sorry, Sir, we don’t have private dining rooms here.” said Mademoiselle with an apologetic tone. She didn’t expect someone of his stature to eat in her little restaurant!

Susan walked in at that moment

“Ah, Miss Gill, you’re here too!”: “I’ll take my usual seat,” Susan said to Miss: “these three are my friends. Please go on with your work.”

Susan made her way to a table by the window. Although there were no private dining rooms, each table was separated by brick walls and was relatively private.

“Are you two used to this kind of place?”. asked Susan as she motioned Sherry to sit inside.

“Looks good!”. William also shuffled in and sat down across from Sherry.

Sherry raised her head and looked into his deep eyes. She felt a sense of fear inside, but she looked at him calmly without showing any sign of weakness.

Large, clear eyes looked straight into William’s eyes, “Mr. Rowland, Sichuan cuisine is very spicy!”

“Really?” William looked at her eagerly and pursed his lips gently.

His elegantly handsome face was expressionless, but he was delighted, “I like spicy food!”.

He replied as he looked at Sherry and she didn’t know how to continue the conversation. He then pulled out his lighter and it was an expensive looking silver colored lighter. He lit a cigarette and elegantly blew a stream of smoke towards Sherry.

“Cough… cough… Sherry choked, coughed and pursed her lips when he didn’t catch the cue to smoke elsewhere.

“Mr. Rowland, can you smoke outside?” Susan frowned and said, “This is a public area and please be considerate of the two ladies here. We don’t want to breathe your second hand smoke.”

“Dear Sue, why don’t you smoke too? That way we’ll all breathe in the second hand smoke and no one will lose out.” Liam joked as he pulled out a cigarette and prepared to light it.

“Smoke outside!” Susan grabbed the cigarette in her hand and threw it on the table.

“Sue, you’re being unfair!”. yelled Liam, “Why don’t you take William’s cigarette?”

“Are you going to put it out by yourself or shall I do it for you?”. said Susan to William.

William took another puff and said, “I’ll do it myself.”

After he said that, he actually put out the cigarette he was barely smoking.

“No fair!”. continued Liam.

Susan glared at the smiling Liam, “Don’t eat if you think it’s unfair. No one dragged you here.”

“Susan!” Liam gritted his teeth and sneered, why did this woman like to bully him, she should bully William if she was so capable!

“Sherry, your taste is similar, go ahead and order what you want to eat!”. Susan ignored him and smiled at Sherry.

“Duck blood in chili sauce!”. Sherry smiled as she ordered.

“Oh dear, I didn’t expect this girl to have a taste for blood!”. cried Liam, “William! I remember you like duck blood in chili sauce too! I didn’t expect you and Sherry to have the same taste.”

William pursed his lips in silence and continued to give Sherry a quiet look. Sherry gaped and sighed at the man in front of her. She felt uncomfortable and didn’t expect this man to like eating duck blood in chili sauce.

“William, I’m going to order a spicy fish stew for you! I remember you like this.” Liam didn’t bother with Susan’s murderous look and smiled as he ordered, “Eating at this place reminded me of when we were studying. Dear Sue, I didn’t expect you to be so nostalgic!”

“What does this have to do with being nostalgic?”. Susan was stunned, she laughed and looked at Liam, “I remember you once cried because the food was too spicy!”

“You are merciless, Miss Gill!”. Liam’s expression changed when he heard Susan bring up her embarrassing past, “Who cried? Sherry, don’t listen to her. I’m heroic and I’m not afraid of anything. It’s just spicy food. I’m not afraid of it.”

Susan burst out laughing, tugged the stunned Sherry and said softly, “Sherry, Liam is a playboy. Don’t be hypnotized by his dreamy eyes. If you really have to choose between the two of them, I suggest you choose William!”

“Are you slandering me? Don’t say anything bad about me to Sherry. Leave me some dignity” Liam looked at the slippery Susan and continued, “Why do I replace you so treacherous?”

“It’s too late for you to figure it out now” Susan laughed and poured them tea.

Liam looked at Susan with disdain and fury, “Miss Gill, you are really cruel to me.”

“Ah! The food is here!” exclaimed Sherry quickly to change the subject and looked at the silent William.

Although William’s features were so perfect and gave off a pleasant air, she was furious at the thought of how he forcibly kissed her and would not allow her to resign herself. She felt as if every cell in her body was trembling with rage.

“The duck blood in chili sauce you two like! Blood! A huge bowl of blood! Bon appetit!” shouted Liam to William and Sherry.

William picked up the soup spoon gracefully and frowned gently as he picked up a piece and placed it in his bowl. He then took a small bite gracefully. He gave you such a gentlemanly look when he ate, so how could he behave ungentlemanly for other matters? Sherry glanced at her favorite meal but didn’t move.

Soon enough, all the plates were served.

Liam hadn’t started eating either and asked, “Sherry, why aren’t you eating?”

“Oh, I’m not that hungry!”. Sherry didn’t want to eat from the same plate as William.

When she heard this, there was a hint of mockery in William’s eyes, “Really? Then whose stomach is growling?”.

After saying this, someone’s stomach squawked a stomach ‘Growl’. Liam and Susan couldn’t help but give a stunned look in the direction of the sound. Sherry’s face turned red with discomfort.

“Eat! Don’t be shy.” Susan smiled calmly, “Don’t be short. Don’t be like Liam. He’s afraid of spicy food.”

Sherry glanced at William and her body couldn’t help but shiver.

“Who’s afraid of chili? I just have a sore throat and don’t want to eat too much. Boss, a plate of fried eggs.” shouted Liam towards the kitchen.

“Vainas!”. said William and continued eating the duck blood.

“Erm!”. Sherry frowned and thought nothing more of it. She picked up the chopsticks and began to eat. What a joke, duck blood in chili sauce was her favorite, why would she let him eat it all?

A moment later, Sherry scooped a few pieces into her bowl and began to eat. She wasn’t shy at all and ate like she was annoyed with someone.

Liam began to laugh out loud as he watched Sherry’s actions and William’s saintly face began to get grumpy. He looked over at the laughing Liam as Sherry picked up the slices of blood.

Liam quickly stopped laughing and at that moment the boss lady brought in the fried eggs. Liam frowned in despair as soon as he saw the fried eggs and both William and Susan started laughing….

“My God, do you want to kill me?”. said Liam loudly which attracted the attention of the other diners.

“What?”. asked Sherry to the giggling Susan as she raised her head. She turned and saw William’s smile widen and become even more curious.

“Nothing, just keep eating,” said Susan as she held back laughter.

William’s expression turned cold and haughty again and Sherry continued to look towards Susan and William. William frowned as he noticed her hesitation and strange expression.

“Mr. Brooks, are you all right?”. asked Sherry with concern.

“Heh heh, I’m fine, I’m just fine!”. Liam felt embarrassed to see Sherry’s concern for him.

“Then why aren’t you eating?”

“Because there’s chili in the eggs!” expressed Susan laughing.

“You shut up!” Liam glared at Susan, “Miss Gill, no wonder you’re still single. You are so sinister.”

Susan’s expression changed, but she said nothing and kept smiling, “Yes, I’m that sinister!”.

Liam pursed his lips, “Okay, I’ll stick my neck out today and not let Sherry look down on me!”.

He picked up the chopsticks and started eating the fried eggs.

Sherry looked at him with wide eyes – she didn’t think Mr. Brooks had anything to be afraid of!
