Chapter 22:.

An unreadable expression crossed the frozen face as well as the eyes.

His demeanor made Sherry realize that what he had done was on purpose. He knew she didn’t have the money, “You’re doing it on purpose!”.

Her hand clutched tightly at her sides as she tried with all her might to suppress her anger. William was silent and suddenly stood up, which startled Sherry.

He smiled and his gaze became unreadable, “Are you afraid of me?”

“I’m going to do my job!”. She turned quickly. Since she couldn’t quit now, she would quit after completing this partnership project.

Sherry lowered her head as she simmered in anger and walked out of Mr. Rowland’s office.

“Sherry? What did Mr. Rowland say?” Miss Hines asked uncharacteristically.

“Miss Hines, does anyone who wishes to resign have to indemnify the company with 30 million yuan?”. She suspected that Rowland Group had grown to that size thanks to that disgusting scheme.

“Huh?” Miss Hines was puzzled, “Why do you say that, did Mr. Rowland want you to compensate 30Million Yuan?”.

“Forget it!”. She would say no more and fumed as she sat down at her workstation.

Miss Hines blinked as it was the first time she had heard anything of that nature. It was also the first time she had heard that Mr. Rowland would not allow a subordinate to resign. Did that mean that Mr. Rowland and Miss Murray had some special relationship? –

“Good morning!” Alice had arrived, “Hello! Sherry! What happened yesterday, how come I didn’t see you?”.

“I’m fine, I was there yesterday!”. She lied.

“That can’t be, Sherry dear, I think you left much earlier!”. A man’s voice suddenly interrupted.

“Honey?” Miss Hines and Alice commented in unison.

“Yes! Dear Anna, dear Alice, how are you both?”. Liam was elated and gave a glance at the three women, addressing them all affectionately.

Miss Hines and Alice exchanged glances and knew that Liam had a great sense of humor.

Sherry looked at the mischievous Liam, but said nothing.

“Why, are you sick?” Liam looked at Sherry and asked worriedly.

“Let’s get back to work!” Sherry shook her head resignedly.

“But you don’t look well!”. Liam looked doubtful, “What’s wrong?”.

“Nothing! I’m going to make some coffee.” Sherry pursed her lips.

She felt harassed and wanted to resign, but that person wanted compensation. But who is she going to ask for compensation after being kissed against her wishes?

Sherry couldn’t even muster a smile when she thought about having to continue working at the Rowland Group.

“Get me a cup!” Liam realized she didn’t want to elaborate and turned his attention to the other two women.

Miss Hines shook her head while Alice shrugged, they both didn’t know what was going on.

“Then I’ll go to Mr. Rowland’s office, goodbye, dear!”. Liam walked briskly towards Mr. Rowland’s office.

Sherry made the morning coffee and sent it to Mr. Rowland’s office. She knocked on the door and entered and saw that both Liam and William were sitting on the couch.

“Mr. Rowland, your coffee, Mr. Brooks, your coffee,” she said formally and turned to leave, but Liam called out to her.

“Sherry, what’s wrong with you today? You seem strange today.” asked Liam as he looked at William blankly.

“I’m fine!” Sherry smiled, “I’m back to work!”

“Miss Murray, take a trip to AVL today. Press on the cooperative project. I wish to have an effective business plan,” William said as Sherry was about to leave.

“Yes!” Sherry nodded in confirmation. She felt nauseous that this man was as sly as a fox.

“Good thing I’m going there too, Sherry, I’ll give you a ride!”. Liam took a sip of coffee and stood up.

William shot a chilling look at Liam, which startled him, but in turn he asked rebelliously, “William, why did you give me a dirty look?”

Sherry clutched the folders and smiled at the thought of how Liam and William argued a moment ago. It seemed that only a person like Liam, who was so careless and uncaring, could make William feel helpless.

When Liam drove up in his car and rolled down the window, Sherry had already lowered her head, neutralized her expression, and adopted the demeanor of a delicate and meek damsel.

“Sherry, get in!”

“Sorry for the inconvenience, Mr. Brooks!”. Sherry forced a smile and climbed into the car, but sat in the back passenger seat.”

“My goodness, can’t you sit next to me?”

“I think it’s more appropriate for me to sit in the back.” Sherry smiled. Liam rolled his eyes as he glanced at her small face in the rear view mirror, “Hum! You must be taking the world’s most dashing man, me, for a chauffeur.”

Wow, wasn’t he embarrassed, thought Sherry, but Liam really was handsome!

Liam didn’t speak anymore.

After Sherry and Susan finished their official discussions, Susan glanced over at Sherry, who was dressed in a black-colored suit like an old maid.

“Miss Gill, is there anything else?”

“May I call you Sherry?”

“Huh? Of course!” Sherry smiled

“How old are you?” Susan guessed she was no older than twenty-four, “Can you tell me?”

“Twenty-three!”. Sherry was never sensitive to her age

“The other important age of a woman.

“What do you mean?”

“There are two important ages for a woman, twenty and twenty-three.” Susan blinked, “You’re at the second most important age in life!”

“Ah…” Sherry was stunned.

Seventeen years old! Twenty was her darkest age, since she lost so much that year….

“Let’s have lunch together!” Susan strangely felt good to Sherry, “I’ll give you a treat!”.

“Is this appropriate?” Sherry hadn’t expected AVL’s number one designer to indulge her.

“Why not, aren’t you hungry?”. Susan raised her beautiful delicate eyebrow and looked at Sherry, “Or are you not willing to eat with me?”

“How can that be? Then I’ll thank you first.” Sherry graciously agreed.

Susan was someone she respected. Many of her designs were very classic and Sherry hadn’t expected her to be so gracious.

“I was really surprised when you said my design was flawed the other day!”

“I’m sorry, it was silly!”

“But that was indeed a defective product!” Susan said without trying to disguise it, “That dress opened on stage and I used safety pins to hold it together on the model!”

“How did it open?” Sherry asked incredulously, she was not surprised to see that the dress didn’t fit and was different from Susan’s previous designs.

“Contest!” Susan said, but Sherry didn’t understand.

They continued chatting as they walked out of Susan’s office.

“William! It’s enough that Sherry and I came to fix the job. You, who are our director, needn’t have bothered to come.” Liam’s voice could be heard from across the hall.

Sherry was stunned and glanced toward that end of the corridor.

William’s arrival attracted a lot of attention, especially when he appeared next to Liam in the hallway.

Many AVL staff members stuck their heads out into the hallway to look. They wanted to catch a glimpse of the Rowland Group director and felt giddy just looking at the cool and elegant Mr. Rowland.

He was wearing a well-fitted business suit, without a single wrinkle, and a pair of shiny leather shoes. His eyes were like those of an eagle focusing intently like a predator.

His strong aura was noticeable all around him, and as he walked down the hallway, all the women in the office were smitten with him and all the men surrendered to his cool dexterity.

In essence, he exuded a feeling that caused others to be in awe of him as they were mesmerized by him?

Liam was always smiling. Liam was approachable while William was like a block of ice. When the two were together, one was a raging flame while the other was a block of ice. They were a dream team and when William arrived, even the AVL director would come out to greet them.

All the best qualities in a man could be found between these two!

Sherry pursed her lips tightly and took a big step away from them. She lowered her head and hid it like a little ostrich.

It was an instinct that she actually felt a terrifying look come across the crowd toward her.

Susan looked at Sherry and said, “Sherry, let’s go the other way!”

“Okay!” She responded immediately and Sherry followed Susan to the other end of the hallway and down the stairs.

“You look like you’re afraid of Mr. Rowland!”. Susan smiled and said along the stairs.

“Huh? No!” Sherry’s heart skipped a beat.

Susan smiled and said sincerely, “Aside from being a playboy, Mr. Rowland’s workmanship is beyond reproach!”.

Indeed, he was a playboy – she had seen him kissing two different women! Sherry thought about it and decided not to engage in gossip. It wasn’t her job to gossip.

Susan looked at Sherry, “Shall we go to a restaurant near the company, do you mind eating at a small Sichuan cuisine restaurant?”.

Sherry was surprised that Miss Gill would eat at that small restaurant. She thought that a renowned designer like her would normally eat in Western restaurants, “No, it’s okay. I like Sichuan cuisine.”

“That’s great!” Susan said happily, “Let’s go!”.

The two walked shoulder to shoulder outside the building and suddenly there was another commotion. The two looked around and saw Liam and William walking out together. They were both tall and well built, which drew attention around them.

“Sherry, why did you leave in such a hurry?”. said Liam loudly.

Sherry ducked her head and turned as they walked toward her. Sherry addressed formally, “Mr. Rowland, Mr. Brooks.”

William looked at Susan and stated gently with indifference.

“I’m going with Sherry to eat at a small restaurant in Sichuan. I’m afraid it’s not a place Mr. Rowland and Mr. Brooks want to go. So I’m not asking you to join us? Susan said gracefully, “Come on, Sherry.”

“All right!” Sherry disguised her delight and turned quickly.

“How can you not invite us?”. muttered Liam under his breath, glanced at William and then shouted to them, “I love to eat at a small restaurant. The taste is authentic and must be delicious! Dear Sue, I want to go! Wait for me…”

Susan turned in amazement as Sherry rolled her eyes. Mr. Brooks really knew how to seek attention.

“William! Come with me. It’ll be more interesting to eat as a group. It’s lunchtime anyway!”.

They thought William wouldn’t go, but they didn’t expect him to nod, “Why not?”
