Chapter 4:.

The man turned in amazement to see Sherry’s bare, beautiful back trembling ever so slightly. There was a pause in his heart: had someone died?

He walked over and sat down in front of her. He saw blood dripping from the corners of her mouth. Apparently she had bitten her fingers so hard that they were now bleeding. He frowned at this pitiful appearance of hers.

“I’ll go there, now! “I’ll go now.” Sherry suddenly hung up her phone and stood up. However, the pain was like an electric shock that coursed through her thighs and made her almost fall to the floor.

The man reached out his hand and helped her regain her balance, “What happened?”

Sherry didn’t look him in the eye as the tears continued to flow. Now that Luke was dead, there was nothing in the world that mattered to her anymore. She had lost her only relative. She had to see Luke now, “I want out, I want out now! I don’t want your money anymore, let’s end our contract!”.

“Are you sure about that?” The man frowned.

Sherry finally escaped his grip, grabbed her blouse and pulled it on. She couldn’t care less about the dumbfounded look on the man’s face as he frantically grabbed her bag and all her things. She was going to run away at any moment.

Before she could do so, the man grabbed her, “There is no transport that can send you down the hill at night. Tell me what happened.”

Sherry looked at him with misty eyes, “I want to go down the hill now!”.

The man said nothing more as he narrowed his deep eyes, “I’ll take you down the hill!”.

During the entire trip, there was not a single moment when Sherry could stop sobbing. The man drove silently the whole way and finally arrived at the hospital.

“If you don’t want to go through with this anymore, I won’t make you do it too! Take half the money as compensation!”.

Sherry froze for a moment before she hurriedly got out of the car. She didn’t answer him at all.

The man watched her disappear through the hospital doors as he gripped the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles were white and pale. He pulled off his mask in annoyance and such a perfect, beautiful face appeared. His delicate face was affected by his furrowed eyebrows. She had a melancholy look on her face…..

Sherry ran into the room and saw a nurse covering Luke’s corpse with a white sheet.

“Where’s my brother, where’s he?” She asked manically any chance she got.

“Miss Murray, I’m so sorry, we’ve done everything we can!”. The attending physician apologized to Sherry. He would not flinch in front of any dying patient, as he had been in the field too long, but this patient was only fifteen years old. It was really, really a waste that he couldn’t age any more from that point on.

Sherry gaped at her brother’s frail, tiny body, which was now completely covered by a white cloth, and couldn’t help but let out a groan, “No …”.

“Miss Murray, please accept our condolences!”. The doctor and nurse tried to make her feel better.

She wailed uncontrollably as she removed the white sheet with trembling hands. At the sight of Luke’s pale face and bruised lips, her tears flowed like a waterfall.

They could only let the tears wet her entire face as she mustered all her strength to suppress her inner voice that threatened to tear her apart inside, “Luke, my dear Luke…”.

As if she could chant his name silently and he would magically come back to life and return

to her side.

It had been a month and a half since then.

Sherry, whose mind was in a complete muddle, was finally able to come to terms with Luke’s death. At the same time, she was discovering that she had been pregnant for some time.

This had happened for the one time she had done it with that man that fateful night!

A look of shock, apathy and anxiety was transformed into a pleasant happiness. This new life forming in her womb was the closest relative she could have in the world.

After leaving the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, Sherry stared at the series of numbers on the medical report and revealed a very rare smile that had not been seen during this difficult period.

She immediately thought of her employer from last time – there was a chance he wouldn’t come looking for her because of this!

She could only imagine what would happen if he had known about this baby. At such a thought, Sherry suddenly sank into a state of panic. She had to run away now, to a place where no one would know about her.

She anxiously scurried down the hallway and suddenly a broad chest came into view and inadvertently bumped into it. She uttered, “I’m sorry!”

Unconsciously she raised her head and saw a very long, thin figure dressed in a dark suit. He had a gaunt, but deep-looking face, and it had a tinge of coldness akin to winter nights. His deep dark eyes resembled the starry night sky, and something in the depths of his eyes emanated a special kind of glow; although, mixed with this glow was a sense of melancholy. He had a straight nose reminiscent of a Greek statue, and his tight lips were angular and indifferent.

“Sir, I’m sorry!” Sherry apologized, once again. Somehow she felt a sense of

familiarity with this man, but she couldn’t remember whether or not she had seen him in the past.

That man just lowered his head, but he turned his eyes on Sherry, a flash of astonishment clouding his eyes. He nodded his head and replied, “Don’t worry about it!”.

His hoarse, shrill tone gave her the feeling of being stranded in the snow on a lonely winter night. Sherry couldn’t stop a shiver from running through her body as she bowed slightly before running off

The man didn’t stop her. He merely watched her forlorn figure slowly disappearing into the distance. His eyes were unreadable and deep-set.

She noticed something on the ground and picked it up. It was a medical report and on it, Sherry’s name was printed along with information confirming her pregnancy.

The man narrowed his eyes and looked back in the direction the woman had gone. Suddenly, a dangerous look entered his eyes, as if he were a predator that had just discovered a prey….
