“Dad…” Sammy said as his eyes turned red, “Don’t let mom die, don’t…”.

“It’s okay, dad take it back. I didn’t say that about mom, I didn’t say that about anyone!”.”. William relented.

“Then apologize to Mommy!”. Sammy rubbed his eyes.

“Er…”. William’s face was turning blue. Sherry wanted to laugh, but she didn’t. It was the first time she had ever felt so happy to be protected by someone. Even though it was two of her children, she felt so happy. She felt she was the luckiest mother on the face of this earth.

“Sammy, it looks like your daddy doesn’t apologize!”.

“Dan!” William suddenly wondered if he had offended Dan. His deep eyes looked up at Dan and Sammy suddenly said, “Wow, Dan has the same eyes as Dad!”.

Sherry was stunned and wondered if Dan was William and some woman’s son.

William was also very surprised, but he only knew he had one son who was Sammy. He had never had another child with another woman. He had taken very good precautions and was sure he had no other son besides Sammy.

“Sammy, go play!” William said.

“Sammy, I think you should keep your father’s last name. I’ll keep my last name with my mom.” Dan suddenly laughed slyly. Hmph, how dare he take advantage of my mommy without marrying her. So what if their eyes looked alike?

“No! I want my last name to be the same as Mommy’s!”. Sammy threw a tantrum.

William gaped at her and said, “Sherry, you took my son away from me!” His tone sounded pathetic and accusing to her.

Sherry turned and looked pleased with herself, but quickly suppressed her good humor, “Don’t blame me!”.

It was he who couldn’t attract her son and he couldn’t blame her. But how could Sammy take her last name? He was the grandson of the Rowland Family. She wouldn’t agree either. As long as William didn’t do anything too extreme, she wouldn’t either.

“Sammy, Dan, shall we eat out?” William decided to curry favor with the boys and try to get them on his side. From the looks of it, Sherry had the upper hand and he was on his own.

“No!”

“No!” Both boys reacted the same way.

William was perplexed and rubbed his nose. He fidgeted, when had he become so pathetic?

“Mom’s going to fix dinner.” Sherry was even happier now. She smiled happily and was secretly glad.

William glanced around the apartment. There were only two rooms and said, “Kids, are we switching apartments or going back to our place?”

“No! I want to stay with mom!”.

“But this place isn’t big enough!”. William said.

“I’ll sleep with Dan.” After he said this, Sammy asked Dan, “Can I sleep with you?”.

“Yes! Of course!”. Dan affirmed.

“Then Dad can only stay with your mom in one room!” said William and gave Dan a look. He was sure Dan would be very nervous and sure enough, his eyes lit up.

“Sammy, tonight you sleep with mommy and I’ll sleep with your daddy!” decided Dan. He wasn’t afraid of William. If he wanted to sleep with Mommy, he had to marry Mommy first!

“Okay! Can I really stay with Mommy?”. Sammy was so happy and couldn’t believe it.

“Yes, of course!”. said Dan and gave William a look to tease him.

Sherry was busy preparing dinner in the kitchen and felt something wasn’t right. William felt like he was getting nowhere and walked into the kitchen and said to Sherry, “Let’s go to the apartment in the hills.”

“Why?” She raised her eyebrows.

“Because I said so!” She said deeply and definitively.

Sherry was washing the vegetables and suddenly her phone rang. She wiped her hands and pulled out her phone to answer the call. The caller was Celia.

Celia said, “Come on out, let’s go to karaoke!”.

“But I can’t come out now!”. Sherry glanced around the house. William was standing by the kitchen door giving her a look. The light illuminated one side of his face while the other was in the shadows. His good looks hid his displeasure. His deep stare drowned out anyone who looked at him and his hair covered both of his bright eyes.

“Isn’t Dan staying at the nursery? Come on out, let’s go have some fun.” insisted Celia.

“I really can’t right now!”. Sherry was quick to say, “Be good, I’ll come with you when I’m free, okay?”.

Celia relented upon hearing this. Sherry let out a giggle as she ended the call. Sherry turned and looked at William, stopped smiling and continued washing the vegetables.

After a while, she looked up and he was still standing in the doorway. He was quiet, indifferent and looked very concerned. Without realizing it, she looked up and saw his handsome face and thought about what the children had said and his helpless look a moment ago.

She smiled and secretly laughed inwardly.

William wondered who had called, why didn’t she say the reason she couldn’t go out, could it be a man? She had once said she had a boyfriend. Also, he was very happy to get the call and shyly said he would go out with the caller. Damn, when did she ever treat him with the same attitude?

William’s gaze hit her and he saw her smile. Her shy expression was clearly cheerful, but she didn’t know who it was for.

Suddenly, he frowned in a chilling tone, “Who called?”

Sherry was stunned. From his tone, it sounded like a husband who suspected his wife of cheating. He responded immediately with a grumpy, “Friend!”.

“What friend?”

“A good friend!” She glared at him and lowered her head. What did he care, why did he have to explain himself to her? Besides, Celia was a woman and had nothing to hide.

“As a mother, you should be careful what you do!” She said grumpily.

Sherry was flabbergasted and responded with distaste, “Crazy!”

He turned and asked, “What did you say?”

Sherry was startled and took one look at this furious expression and didn’t say another word. She lowered her head and inexplicably explained, “Celia asked me to go out to Karaoke. I didn’t have time to go. I hardly have much opportunity to spend with Sammy and I want to spend more time with my son.”

Even she felt strange because he explained this to her. When he heard the explanation, he was stunned, and then his expression warmed up, and he laughed, “Haha…”.

With her laughter, his mood stopped being bad, and the atmosphere warmed up significantly as if the cloudy sky cleared up, and he said, “So it’s Leon’s sister. I thought she was a man.”

He could hear her soft murmur and Sherry looked up and he was looking at her. She quickly looked down and continued with the food preparation.

William’s imposing body moved closer to her and his slender hands reached for the basin and helped her wash the vegetables. She startled and looked up. He was witty and humorous as he said, “I’ll help you, mother of children.”

This title was rather awkward. Her face flushed immediately, “No… no need!”.

She felt very uncomfortable having her hands in the small basin washing the vegetables next to her. Suddenly, his hand touched hers and she quickly withdrew her hands.

“Dad, are you going to cook for us?”. Sammy rushed in suddenly and gave William a look. Behind Sammy was Dan and it seemed to William that Dan was very astute.

“Uncle, seeing as you’re helping Mommy, tonight I’ll share half my bed with you. Mommy, tonight you’ll sleep with Sammy. I’ll sleep with Uncle.”

“Ah!” Sherry was stunned. This arrangement was…very logical. She nodded and then shook her head, “Both you and Sammy will sleep with me. Uncle will sleep alone.”

“Okay!” Dan affirmed.

“No!” William shook his head, “I want to sleep with your mom, I’m dad! Dan, come call me daddy!”.

“After you marry Mom! It’s too soon now!”. Dan patted Sammy’s shoulders, “Come on bro, let’s go play a game!”.

“Okay!”, let’s take the robot apart and then put it back together.”.

“Okay! I’ll show you how to take the God of War apart and then put it back together.”

Sherry turned red. She was embarrassed by what the children had said. Seeing her face turn sullen, she said softly, “Rest assured, I’ll explain it to the children. You don’t have to worry. I won’t marry you. We can be friends and everything can be for the children. I won’t misunderstand and neither should you.”

William looked at her uncomfortably for a moment. He was uneasy and then said decisively. “Apart from getting married, I can give you everything else.”

Her heart sank, “What do you mean?”

“I can be yours wholeheartedly! Except that I can’t give you status!”. He said solemnly, “Put another way, you can have a single man, and apart from being legally married to you, I will give you everything. I will do everything a husband does and you will also do it as a wife. Can you accept this? That’s fair enough.”

She was dumbfounded. She didn’t understand, couldn’t quite understand. There was a moment when Sherry thought time had stopped.

What did he mean, that her whole person belonged to him? Did he mean that he would be hers as in a marriage? Just a certificate? She wanted to ask him what he meant, but she didn’t know how to go about it.

“Don’t you understand?” He asked as he raised his eyebrows.

She affirmed and then shook her head.

“If you don’t understand, just be obedient!” he said calmly, “Be a good girl who doesn’t say too much and doesn’t cause any trouble, then you’ll be very happy!”.

She really didn’t understand what he meant. It was also strange and she didn’t understand why. Since he was willing to fulfill the responsibilities of a marriage, then why didn’t he want to get married? She really couldn’t understand, but she decided to forget about it. She shouldn’t get involved with a person like him.

“Are you married?” She asked suddenly.

He was startled and his gaze sharpened, “No!”.

“Oh!” Sherry thought maybe he didn’t agree with the concept of marriage, “Then why did you look for a person to give you a child?”.

He was perplexed and his expression darkened. He immediately stopped and realized that he shouldn’t have asked that question. It was his private business. He was entitled to a little privacy.

After a moment, he said, “I’ll cook now, go out and play with the kids.”

“I’ll help you! They can play by themselves.” William didn’t say anything else and didn’t explain either. He began to take out the vegetables.

“But I don’t need your help!” He said calmly, “I can manage on my own.”

William felt the mood had taken a turn for the better and began to smile.
