Chapter 34:
“It’s only been a few days. Maybe she couldn’t handle it and rushed back.”
“She actually managed to come back, huh? I thought she’d be stuck there, washing clothes for her family, taking care of a sick grandmother, and eventually marrying off to support her five older brothers.”
“Maybe she ran away in a hurry. That family is worthless.
Ha-ha…”
They mocked her, throwing harsh words her way.
Adelina felt a rush of satisfaction as she listened, though she pretended to be concerned.
“Harlee, why did you come back? Even if they need your care, it’s just housework. Life can be tough, but they’re your family. They’re your biological parents.
How could you just abandon them?”
Adelina continued, “My parents wanted you to reconnect with your real family. Yet, I bet they would be so disappointed to know you couldn’t handle a little hardship.”
Her comments only fueled the disdain in the eyes of those around Harlee.
A girl beside Adelina scoffed.
“She doesn’t live like a lady but still wants to act like one. She came from poverty but can’t accept that she’s still poor.”
“Exactly! Does she really think coming back changes anything? The Gill family has Adelina now and won’t acknowledge her.”
“Is she planning to beg the Gill family for money? How utterly shameless! She has the blood of a beggar.”

“Harlee, if you really need cash, I can talk to my parents. They might help you out. No need to beg,” Adelina said, her tone dripping with false kindness.
“Even if you want something for nothing and refuse to accept your situation, don’t humiliate yourself like this.”
“You’re delusional.
Get treated instead of blurting out nonsense,” Harlee shot back, her tone icy.
Her response shocked everyone, and they glared at her in anger.
Seeing this, Adelina felt even more pleased. The more Harlee was disliked and criticized, the harder it was for Adelina to hide her excitement.
“I’m only trying to help you, Harlee.
How could you say that?” Adelina feigned hurt. She bit her lower lip and looked at Collin with sad eyes.
“Collin, is it because I’m not good enough that Harlee dislikes me?”
“It has nothing to do with you. You’re just too nice, which is why someone like her picks on you.” Collin put his arm around Adelina’s waist.
He frowned and shot a cold glance at Harlee.
“Harlee, considering our past ties, I’ll overlook this just this once.
But if I see you bullying Adelina again, don’t blame me for being harsh.”
Their past ties? Harlee found his words ridiculous.
“I don’t recall having any ties with you.”
