Chapter 47:

“Let’s see how this unfolds.” Harlee was a mystery to him, and he had a hunch she might possess numerous secrets.

Contrary to the assumption that she had fled the scene, Harlee showed up from backstage, catching Adelina off guard.

Yet, this was exactly what Adelina had hoped for.

“Harlee, have you returned to join the race?” She clasped her hands to her face, adopting a playful stance.

“I knew you wouldn’t let us down.”

With such flattery, Harlee was now cornered into participating.

Harlee offered a subtle smile.

Her slim figure and radiant beauty, unadorned by makeup, drew all eyes to her as she stood there silently.

Some people possessed a natural allure that no cosmetic could replicate.

Harlee shrugged nonchalantly.

“That’s precisely why I’m here.”

When Adelina learned Harlee was entering the race, she was thrilled. She had never heard of Harlee racing, assuming instead that Harlee was here merely to cater to men.

Adelina doubted Harlee could handle a race car and assumed Harlee was bound to make a fool of herself.

Adelina could hardly contain her glee at the thought of Harlee being deeply humiliated. The more Harlee blundered, the brighter Adelina would appear by comparison.

Adelina was delighted, convinced that Harlee had been baited into a rash decision.

“Since you’re racing, the car…” She fought to hide her smile, pretending to be concerned, but her voice was loud enough for everyone to overhear.

“Harlee, how will you replace a car?”

“She’s down to nothing now. She’ll probably rent the cheapest, most basic one they have!” Phoebe chimed in, covering her mouth and giggling.

Adelina mimed a look of concern.

“Then, Harlee, you’ll just have to manage. I have only one car, and it’s the one my parents sent over when they learned I was heading to the track.”

With that, Adelina called for her car to be brought over.

As the race car appeared, it caught everyone’s eye.

“Adelina, you have such a nice car!” Phoebe exclaimed, dashing over to touch it.

“This car must be worth a fortune. Your parents really spoil you.”

Though they came from wealth, not everyone could effortlessly produce a car worth millions.

“My parents just adore me.” Adelina’s cheeks flushed with pride as she looked at Harlee and said, “Harlee, does it hurt to see how well my parents treat me? I deserve it.

After all, I’m their biological daughter.

After all my struggles away from home for the past years, they just want to make things right for me.”

“Oh, I suppose you wouldn’t understand. You had everything once, but that time is long gone. I won’t hold it against you for once taking my place.”
