Chapter 34:.

Hugo gently deposited the woman in the car and drove her to the hospital. The best doctors immediately went to attend her and Hugo spent the night in an armchair next to his wife’s bed watching over her sleep.

Sara woke up at noon the next day, smelled the classic hospital smell of chlorine and air fresheners and wondered what you were doing there. She looked at the chair next to the bed and it was empty, suddenly she felt lonely, but this feeling did not last long because the bathroom door opened and out came Hugo with his suit shirt buttoned up and his hair a little damp.

“You’re awake, are you okay, how are you feeling?”

“I’m fine, just a little hung over.” managed to say Sara after looking carefully at Hugo’s face, she was looking for some sign that would give away the falseness of her concern, but she couldn’t replace anything.

Sara tried to stand up to reach for a glass of water and some pills on a nearby table, but Hugo prevented her and reached for the medicine and water himself. Sara watched him silently.

“Don’t move I’m going to call the doctor.” Hugo pressed a button as Sara rolled her eyes.

“I’m fine it’s no big deal.” at that moment the doors to the room opened after a couple of knocks and an older man walked in wearing a white coat.

“Good morning Mrs. Moretti.”

“Call me Sara please” she rectified him.

“Sara I’m glad you’re waking up, how are you feeling?”

“I’m fine doctor, that’s just what I was telling Mr. Moretti, I think it was an exaggeration to bring me to the hospital on a drunken bender.”

“You are wrong Sara, your husband did the right thing and you should take better care of yourself. You just suffered alcohol poisoning Alcohol poisoning is a serious and sometimes fatal consequence of drinking large amounts of alcohol in a short period of time. Drinking too much too quickly can affect breathing, heart rate, body temperature and gag reflex and potentially cause coma and death. I hope you will be more careful next time and not drink so much.”

“Don’t worry doctor, I’m going to keep an eye out to make sure this doesn’t happen again.” Hugo spoke very confidently and Sara watched him worriedly, she sensed that the doctor’s scolding had not been enough for Hugo.
