Chapter 54:.

“So you’re telling me that someone tried to assassinate my wife.” Hugo’s eyes had transformed into pure fire, his gaze was filled with hatred when he heard Alejandro speak.

“Yes sir, apparently someone made an attempt on the lady’s life, but we still haven’t been able to replace out who, the security cameras show that the lady drove her car to the inauguration at night so the job must have been done while we were all busy at the party. In the parking lot there were no cameras so we couldn’t see who might have approached the lady’s car, Nadia forwarded me the guest list from the party and we are going through the guest cars one by one to see if the black box in any of those cars might have recorded anything important.”

“Okay, when you replace out something let me know. Now take me to see Sara.”

“Sir I don’t think you should get up yet, she is still weak.”

“I’m not going to say it again.” demanded Hugo and Alejandro had no choice but to obey.

He helped Hugo to stand up and accompanied him to the room where Sara was, at the foot of the bed was Emily crying disconsolately while Beatriz tried to comfort her, a few steps behind Nadia stood with a serious countenance, anyone who saw her would think she didn’t care about the situation, But Alejandro looked into her eyes and saw the enormous sadness they hid, he better than anyone was able to understand her, no one better than him knew the affection that can be developed for a boss, because despite the differences there comes a time when you end up getting fond of him.

Alejandro had seen himself in Nadia’s situation hours before, but he had not been able to be as strong as her and hold back his tears.

Hugo entered the room and noticed Sara, she had her eyes closed and a bandage around her head, she looked beautiful even in that state, some bumps on her face had turned purple, but Emily had tried to hide it with some makeup.

Hugo looked at Sara’s beautiful face and felt his heart compress, he had never experienced anything like this. He couldn’t stop watching his wife, she looked like a beautiful porcelain doll, fragile and charming, suddenly Hugo felt like kissing her, maybe she would wake up like in the tale of the sleeping beauty, but considering Sara’s character instead of being grateful and marrying him like the princess, the most possible thing was that when she would wake up she would slap him and scold him for taking advantage of her, so Hugo smiled and stopped thinking stupid things.

Emily had been analyzing Hugo since she saw him enter the room, she hadn’t crossed paths with Hugo many times and she didn’t know him very well either, but on the occasions when they met she could always notice that insurmountable aura, his bearing of a strong and determined man.

However, the man who was in front of her friend’s bed today was far from that image, the Hugo that Emily saw today was a worried man, you could see it in his eyes, remorseful and fearful.

Emily knew that maybe this accident could serve to save her friend’s marriage, after all they had been married for years. Emily was worried that Sara not having a family would always be alone, she just wanted her good friend to have someone by her side to protect and love her, after seeing the suffering in Hugo’s eyes, Emily made the decision to bring them together.

“Sir, you should rest” Alexander put his hand on Hugo’s man to get his attention.

“No, I’m staying with her, ask them to prepare a bigger room and put two beds.”

Alejandro wanted to refuse, but on second thought he dismissed obey, after all if they stayed apart Hugo was going to be insisting with going to see Sara and so he was never going to fully recover, when Hugo saw Alejandro left and looked towards Nadia and Emily.

“You two should go and rest too, don’t worry about her, I’m going to look after her.” Nadia was considering refusing, but Emily spoke first.

“It’s okay Mr. Moretti, we’ll leave you two alone, any news call us.” Emily took Nadia by the hand and led her out of the room.

Sara was moved to another room where there were two beds, for the next few days Hugo watched over Sara constantly and made sure she was not missing anything, Emily, Nadia and Beatriz were the only ones allowed to visit the room.

Hugo didn’t allow anyone else to approach, as he still didn’t know who had made the attempt against Sara he thought that the best thing to do was to keep her under his eyes, and thus avoid that someone could harm her.

The days passed and Hugo was getting more and more used to be near Sara, during the day he read her the news, gave her business advice, helped her at work and at night, when everybody was asleep Hugo paid his bed to Sara’s and hugged her to sleep while he caressed her hair and whispered sweet words until he fell asleep.
