Chapter 10:

Sherry turned, she saw Anna Hines with a long expensive face, standing behind her, “Good morning, I’m Sherry!”.

As she nodded her head slightly, Miss Hines politely replied, “Welcome to join the Rowland Group.”

“Nice to meet you!”, Sherry humbly replied.

Miss Hines took her to familiarize herself with the work environment. She began arranging a job for her at the front desk, out of the secretary’s room. She would be responsible for welcoming and getting rid of unnecessary people away from Mr. Rowland. At the same time, she would send and receive documents and answer a couple of phone calls.

“Miss Murray, do you think you can do that?” asked Miss Hines.

“I think so.”

“Miss Murray, as of today, you and I are Mr. Rowland’s secretaries. Mr. Rowland doesn’t like ‘I think so’ but just yes or no, do you think you can do it?”

“Yes!”

Miss Hines smiled, “I will do my best to teach you as much as I can. If there’s anything you don’t know, you can always ask me. I’ll be down to bring some documents.”

“Yes!” Sherry took a deep breath and sat down.

On the other side, the door to Mr. Rowland’s office opened and Sherry unconsciously stood up.

“Coffee!” William waited a long time without seeing his first cup of coffee of the morning.

“Yes!”

Sherry ran into the coffee room, suddenly felt someone staring at her, so she couldn’t help but turn and then looked into his eyes, which were like bottomless water. She started to panic looking away and ran out.

Why was Mr. Rowland looking at her like that, had she done something wrong? Damn it, why had she forgotten that Miss Hines had told her that the first thing she would do every morning when Mr. Rowland came into the office, would be to immediately pour him a cup of coffee? It was part of her job and she could only start from the basics.

He took a deep breath and brewed a nice cup of coffee which he immediately served to Mr. Rowland.

The closer he got to his office, his heart felt like it was beating nonstop. Facing such a serious boss on her first day on the job, she was worried that she might get fired if she did something wrong. After taking another deep breath, she finally reached up and knocked on the thick mahogany door.

“Come in.” A faint magnetic sound came from the door.

Sherry felt instantly startled. This voice, did she seem to have heard it somewhere?

In a moment of trance, she took a deep breath and walked in, “Mr. Rowland, here’s your coffee!”.

“Okay, you can go now.” She didn’t even raise her head, the man was sitting in front of the office desk as if he were buried with documents. Sunlight streamed in through the back window while his whole body was covered with a dazzling transparency. This made people afraid to give him a glance directly.

“Yes!” Sherry put the coffee on the table and turned to leave.

“Wait!” The man behind the desk lifted his face.

“Yes!” She turned as only his figure met her eyes.

Those eyes were scary, making people tempted to approach.

“You made this coffee?” William focused on the coffee and smelled an authentic taste of Brazil.

“Yes!” Sherry looked down unconsciously and blushed. Since she rarely spent time with men, she couldn’t help but feel shy.

He stared at her for a long time without saying anything.

“Mr. Rowland, is there anything else?” Sherry couldn’t contain herself as she felt he had been standing still for a long time. He seemed to be looking at her all the time as if he wanted to see the bottom of her soul.

William took a sip of the coffee, felt the sweetness in his mouth and it was very soothing, “You can come out now!”.

“Yes” Sherry affirmed and was relieved.

After the whole day, Sherry began to familiarize herself with the whole process of being a secretary. In the afternoon, Miss Hines brought in another woman, who looked like a recent graduate. Upon seeing Sherry, she instantly smiled and greeted her, “Hi, my name is Alice Ryan, I’m new to the company, nice to meet you!”.

“Hi, my name is Sherry Murray!”, she returned his greeting.

Just then, a woman in high heels approached. Sherry and Alice instantly stood up and said hello – it was because they were new to the company and didn’t know who she was!

The woman was dressed in a king blue V-neck dress with a very low neckline and her cleavage was very visible. She was tall and beautiful. She began to squint when she first saw Sherry and Alice. At that moment, Miss Hines had just come out of the office, instantly her face changed, “Anna, are you new employees here?”

“Yes! Lara Rhodes, these are the new secretaries, Sherry Murray and Alice Ryan. If I’m not around, please show them well!”.

“Of course, whatever Anna asks to do, how can I do it?” she politely replied.

The personal telephone machine in Mr. Rowland’s office rang. As Sherry was about to answer it, she was pushed aside. Lara quickly picked up the phone and answered, “Mr. Rowland.”

“Coffee!”

“Yes!” Lara hung up the phone and went to make a cup of coffee.

Sherry and Alice continued with their work.

After a while, Lara put on a serious countenance as she left the office. She looked at Sherry and said in an impolite tone, “Sherry, Mr. Rowland is asking you to make a cup of coffee for him!”
